It would appear as if Sentech are throttling traffic to non-Sentech POP3 Mail Accounts. My Sentech Mail downloads quickly and at full package speed, but when I download non-sentech mail it takes forever and only seems to download at 10% or less of package speed. This would appear as if it is also dependent on the amount of traffic, as in the evenings it is faster than in the day.

Is anyone else having the same problem?

Everything else is working 100% correctly and I am receiving acceptable speeds on my package, it is just the mail from non-Sentech Accounts.

Im using Sentech at work in the Midrand area....and my mail has allways been pretty damn slow through Sentech512 compared to ADSL512.

Where is your POP account located? Remember, that whilst the sentech pop3 accounts live on their backbone, Sentech has limited peering arrangements with other ISP's so it's only natural that it will be slower.

I have the exact same problem. (So bad today I can barely download my other POP3 accounts. been like this for about a week)

I spoke to Sentech and they are aware of the problem and are looking into it. They said it relates to "an incident" that they had with one of their servers.

They have promised to call me once its resolved, but i suggest calling and adding your name to "problem;. Be careful who you speak to as only one guy seemed to know what was happening. (ie. if they deny, speak to someone else or PM me and I'll give you my ticket number)

*sigh* ..afflicted too. I have a domain that traceroutes to colo.mweb.* and it's too tiresome for words how long email takes. But I've also got another one that traces to firesnetwork.com and THAT mail I get at, no worries.

Also, I've got a client whose staff all have separate POP3's on Tiscali/WOL and they haven't called to b1tch about deathly slow mail, so I suspect this is less external POP3 mail is fux0red than there's some kind of peering bottleneck happening.

Actually guys.... this one is something we have in common with iBurst ;-) ... Their international pop3 access is also sucky because they use the same ISP for that specific traffic ...IS.

It's been a long-standing issue and one that I doubt will get fixed as the buck is repeatedly passed....
