Can someone please explain the following terms:
Softcap
Hardcap

Also I am with Mweb on a 9gig account. How will Telkoms changes affect me eg. pricing etc. I haven't heard anything from Mweb regards an increase in tariff to them.

Sorry if this has all been explained a million times.

Thanks in advance
B

I think...

Soft Cap - Still have local Access
Hard Cap - Totally cut off?

Soft Cap is handled by the traffic measuring system, and it gives you a new ip address when you're capped that can only see local internet.
Hard Cap is handled by the traffic measuring system, and it disallows login when you're capped.
Cannot help you with the MWeb stuff ... phone them ?

Lol in simple terms:

Soft-cap: Unlimited local bandwidth after reaching cap

Hard-cap: Total internet disconnection after reaching cap

I was under the impression that a the meanings where as follows...

Hard Cap - You are allocated X amount of bandwidth, when that is finished they throttle/halt your service.

Soft Cap - You are allocated X amount of bandwidth but if you go over it they will not cap you straight away. You will continue with your normal service but if you are a repeating offender or go substantially over your cap they will throttle/halt your service

Put into context
"We reserve the right to terminate a connection if we deem the usage excessive or inappropriate. DSL Lite service has a 5 GB soft bandwidth cap as this package is not intended for customers with higher bandwidth usage. Customers who continually exceed 5 GB per month will be asked to move up to the 3 Mbps DSL package."

according to SAIX's new pricing.. 9gb x R59.95 (excl. VAT or ISP mark-up), your 9gb account will cost you R539.95 excl. VAT or ISP mark-up.

bet you weren't expecting that, eh? ;)

i suggest you spread your wings from the clutches of Mweb, and go for SAOL.com's 10gb solution for R349.

peace!

how much you paying for 9 gigs with mweb?

hmmm mweb's amazing offer 145 for 1 gigs so your paying over 1000 for 9 gigs lol

mweb are worse than telkom because they make so much profit off one gig ok maybe telkom make like 500% but still

use another isp

downgrade to 56k dial to keep mail addy and phone saol now
