Been running a 2meg line for a couple of months without any hassles. Download speeds were constant at 225-250 KB/sec. Suddenly as of a week ago it dropped to result below:

Last Result:
Download Speed: 1323 kbps (165.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 414 kbps (51.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 37 ms

I tried 4 diff ADSL ISP accounts, all give me the same result, capped or uncapped. Reported the issue to Telkom, tech was even more of a noob than me, and said that the speed I'm getting is what I'm suppose to get.

No equipment changed on my side. What could be the cause of this? I read a bit through the threads, ran a trace rout, with the result attached. Can anyone spot a problem?

Seems fine to me, slightly high latency on your exchange but it's not too bad. Post line stats.

login to your router

its usaly on the main page that table wiht the lots of numbers on,its that

or if its not there look for a status selection

Type Interleave Path
Status SHOWTIME
Downstream Upstream
Data rate(Kbps) 1536 508
Noise Margin 5 13
Output power(dBm) 12 18
Attenuation(dB) 51 29

SNR is VERY bad - get Telkom to do a remote test on this as well.
If theirs tests better, it might be an internlal fault..

Attentuation is Poor - this may be bad copper between you and the exchange :(

king,do u know how far your from your exchange?

http://www.broadbandstats.co.za/search/phone/
can use this to find it,and then use google maps to work out the lenth

if ur close to it your ATT.is definitely wrong ,if your far +-5km it may be so,but your SNR is not right, the telephone pole outside
the box on it,is it horizontal or vertical

i also have grap snr due the the old "box" that fallen over, waiting for the techi to come fix it

In a straight line I'm about 3.5km from the exchange.

Love this part on the website:
The following Telkom service is available in your location:
ADSL is available in your area
Your exchange is also enabled for 10Mbps

I use to have a 4meg line, but never got more than 3, so downgraded to 2, as it's useless paying for 4 when you only sync at 3. And apparently 10 is available hahaha

distance is the killer. 3.5km in straight line. this is different of course.

SNR is is pretty bad, make sure filter is fine and as well check that cable doesnt run close to power or anything causing magnetic field.

Probably doesn't help that they put the phone socket right next to the wall plugs? But it's been like that for years, sure that wont have caused the sudden drop in line speed?

it can play a roll, but if its been there all the time, and never made a problem its wont be that

but moveing it if u can,do it :)

just one thing that can make snr drop, and one less point to worry about :)
