I have a rooted S4 i9500 and I am interested in flashing a custom ROM. I'm pretty nervous about doing it but they say you can always do a nandroid backup. However, my question is regarding the baseband of the custom ROM. In most cases, the baseband used to create the custom ROM is not from South Africa, therefore, how will this affect my cellphone reception?

If anyone has experience in this, please advise.

I've flashed CM, RR, Slimbean, AOKP, Rootbox, neatrom and a few other I can't remember and never once noticed any effect on signal strength or call quality. At worst the signal sucks and you try a different rom or re-install your stock o/s. If you're starting out with a well known like CM or RR you'll more than likely be fine.
