Hi all

Just got my new rig and looking around came around 2 local disks, C & D. Googled, and learnt it was a parition. My (C:) has everything installed but on has 10% of my 1TB space. The (D:) has nothing in it and has got 90% of my memory.

Anyway to rectify this?

Thanks

Depending on the windows you are running, this is what you do on windows 7:

1. Click the Start button on the bottom left.
2. Right click Computer.
3. Click Manage.
4. Click Disk Management on the top left.
5. Click the hard drive and you can either increase, decrease or delete a partition.

If you delete the D partition it will then become raw space which you can then add on to your C partition by right clicking the C partition and clicking Extend Volume.

Be very careful and make sure that you are deleting the correct partition and that there isn't any information on the partition that you want saved, deleting a partition will erase any data on that partition.

Why would u correct this? I highly doubt you gonna install more than 90GB of apps, am I right?

So redirect your documents folder to your D: drive and save all documents and data to that drive. This being if ur OS buggers out or u need to do a reinstall it will be quick and painless with regards to moving data to another drive... Just safer IMO...

Agreed. Nothing wrong with the setup.

On the other hand I have +200GB in my Program Files (x86) folder alone (just games). Now I could include office and other apps but then it would be nearing 300GB.

For me personally I wouldn't want to partition my drive unless it was bigger than 1TB and even then new drives are so cheap these days that I'd rather just add another one (although I already have four physical drives in my machine so maybe that doesn't give me much leg to stand on!).

I also do not partition my drives, but you need to offer advice in the context of this thread. You do not want a self-confessed noob messing around with partitions.

If I do leave the partition, will I have any problems when installing games later on?

Yeah you won't have problems - if you need to you can just install the games to another drive.

True - it's just that I've had to work on a machine with almost no space on the main partition (like less than 50mb) and the errors you get just drive a person crazy...and having to hunt down stuff to uninstall can be a pain!

There are not as many apps as there are games that take up huge amounts of space. So just make a Games folder on the 900gig partition and install all your games there from the beginning. The hundred gig system partition is more than enough for OS and apps, as well as a nice amount of room to drop stuff on the desktop that's large but not necessarily permanent. Like if you need to unzip a large file.

I even have steam installed to another drive.
