Just got myself a Gainward 6600GT 128MB Golden Sample (AGP). To me it seems to be running hot. At idle it runs at about 55 degrees and under full load it peaks at 68 degrees.

I've also got a 80mm case fan blowing directly on the card which brought the temperature down about 5 degrees ( was originally running at about 60 degrees idle and 74 degree under load)

Are these temperatures normal? I've not oc'd the card at all (525/950)

Yeh those temps arent very good man, that does not seem normal under most circumstances,is it used? You might have dust issues?Try some wire management to reduce temps abit, could be the case size aswell?

From searching the net it seems as though the 6600GT's do run at high temperatures.

The cards is brand new, so it's certainly not a dust issue. Also got lots of cooling in the case with an ambient temp of about 28 degrees so I don't think thats the problem either.

I'm sure this is normal, just wanted to see what temperature others with 6600GT's are running at.

Mine runs at 50 degrees idle and round 65 to 68 when used. Btw my system temp is round 38 degrees when idle.

Rumour has it that the std cooling on some of the 6600GTs is not really coping with our current hot conditions. Runs very hot (70C and up) Might want to invest in some alternative cooling solutions.

wow,thats rather astounding to me..
My card runs 35ish idle 45 loaded max...

EchoDown : What make is your 6600GT?

I'm not that keen to oc the card as it's still new and I really don't need to at this stage. Runs GTR and GT Legends on full settings no problem.

525/950???

is that initial setting normal for a 6600GT??? My 7800GT GS runs at 450/1100, thats why i am asking.

my old 6800GT would idle at 55 as well and go as high as 70 while playing very graphic intensive games.

Yip thats the stock setting in "Enhanced mode" on the 6600GT GS. I.E. the card is still covered by waranty up to those settings. I must say I'm loving this card! :D

useless,
6600 GT accesses memory 128 bits at a time,yours 256...
Also 6600gt processes 8pixels per clock while a 7800 is what 24?
So your 450>his 600 big time...hehe
Sorry forgot to say Thorin, mine is a 6800

just gimme A 3,4GHZ PRESCOTT abd a 6600gt and u got the perfect oven PC
