Hi Guys

Can you please help me out with the following?

Currently my budget does not allow to have DSTV, or rather the amount of time me and my lovely 4month pregnant wife  watch TV does not justify the monthly fee. (rather buy a pram???)

OK lets cut to the chase.

If I do decide to maybe watch Mr Cruywagen :o I want to actually see him, and it's not really the case at the moment.

Ok...

1. We live on a smallholding between Stellenbosch and Somerset West - Signal not to great

2. I know Ellies http://www.ellies.co.za/index.php?id=2 sells 10 gizillion items re antennas and boosters etc., but I do not know what to get or go for.

3. We do have everything set up at the moment but picture is VERY weak, so I do not mind replacing everything. (Or if theres a cheaper solution please share!)

4. For normal SABC and E-TV, do I need that UHF/VHF Combo Aerial or can it only be VHF??
Should I get on with an amplified kit, or can I buy the amplifier thingiemagick seperate (Code please)

5. Where do I put the booster/amplifier? On the aerial or in the TV Room?

All help welcome :)

I agree with computek, the easyview option is best. Rather get one of those DSTV specials including installation, I think it's something like R549. It might even be cheaper than buying all new antennae equipment.

+1

Just get the one for like R100 per month... you will get all the SABC channels and a few other random ones. I think topTv has the same kind of thing.

Hi Guys

Thx for the input, considering hardware costs and all the effort, I might as well just go for Computek's suggestion!

Cheers

You will have to buy a decoder or new digital tv in the next few years anyway as analog terrestrial broadcasts are being phased out. Might as well go with DSTV Easyview at R20 per month. Decoder and installation is only R600 (DON'T use AEREA-SAT!). PM me if you want me to recommend an installer from Stellenbosch.

If you want your terrestrial setup to work, you can get away with one braaigrid antenna and UHF booster if you can see Tygerberg. Otherwise a VHF antenna and braaigrid together with a VHF/UHF combiner that amplifies the UHF for Constantiaberg. Braaigrid polarised horizontal and VHF antenna polarized vertical for Constantiaberg. The Stellenbosch gapfiller transmitter is probably too far from you.
