I need some help with NIS. I am not looking for people to tell me to use another product, just for advise on how to correct a problem I am having.

I have recently upgraded to NIS 2006, and am up to date with all virus definition etc.

I am having problems send emails. I have been through the mill of checking my settings, pinging the SMTP servers etc. Basically the problem only arises if I am replying to an Email that has a bit of data, or trying to send an email with an attachment. Sending a blank or 1 line email I have no problem.

I have deselected to scan outgoing email, but NIS still does, and then hangs up, and gives me an error. I have been on the Symantec website and there suggestions do not help.

I only experience the problem when using my ADSL connection. If I connect through Iburst I have no problem!

Any ideas?

yes, but it still scans the emails!! I tried uninstalling and this solved the problem, but gave me a new headache! I would prefer to fix NIS, because I have already paid for it. Thanks.

BTW, I receive the following error from NIS, which offers a link to support on Symantec website, but the advise does not work!

Error: "Your email message to <email address of recipient> with the subject <email subject> was unable to be sent . . ." (1003,9)

MBB, I had a similar problem with it way back when. I don't really have any solution for you ... I returned the product, and bought NAV2006 instead (I know you dont want to hear that, but you have the option to return it, even if you downloaded it from the site)

Thanks LandyMan. The problem is I did download it and have NIS 2006. Are you saying you downscaled to NAV 2006 and used a different firewall?

If you are using outlook express uncheck the box that says disconnect when sent . As outlook thinks the message has been sent ,but norton is still scanning ? Try that

Similar problem with a client once and it was the firewall portion that was the problem, try playing around with the firewall options and maybe disable the firewall and see it that is in fact the problem, then look for a fix.

Yep! I had serious issues with NIS. On their return policies page, you have the option 'The product was not what I was looking for' or something like that. You use that as your reason for returning it, with some description of the errors. They will refund your money, and you can buy NAV. I use NAV with Sygate Personal Firewall now.

Nothing to do with norton, Phone you isp and get them to Turn off the spam blocker on their side. this should fix the problem.

I have tried this too. Just contacted Telkom Internet, who claim they have turned it off. Incidently I have tried another SMTP server (smtp.saix.net) as well, but with no joy.
This is very frustrating and I have been messing around with this for a month now!
