bought HD PVR (R1999). self installed LNB2 and 2nd cable. phoned multichoice to activate new service. can view channel 171 in HD and have 5.1 dolby sound. unable though to view some channels (104,111,170,172,180,etc). also only 2 program info bars and unable to view full TVGuide.

do i need to change any settings on decoder? would appreciate any help. many thanks.

It sounds like your LNB itself isn't picking up both vertical and horizontal polarization so it's probably not at the correct rotational position (skew). It should be roughly between 4 and 5 o' clock. Maybe somebody here knows the EXACT positioning.

definatley LNB is out of alighnemnt and its 4 o'clock, best way to test is to put it on the chanels you missing, go to the menue with signal strenght and quality and move it slowly untill its 98 - 100%

And to clarify, the above is specifically related to the fact that you cannot view all of the channels.
The EPG problem is related to which cable is being fed into one of the ports. I can't remember the actual details but many of the people here will have advice on how to resolve that as I've seen countless times when this particular question was asked.

Maybe you put the cables wrong way around? Happened to me switched the cables around and everything was working.

There is horizontal and vertical channels in your short list of missing channels. This makes me suspect that is maybe not the skew, but rather alignment that is out. This causes bad signal quality and levels.

Are you experiencing breakup on the channels that are showing?

thank you for all the replies. all sorted. i went to one of the channels with the issue (e.g. 170), pressed menu, selected Information Central, then Signal Status. i then re-aligned the twin LNB that i bought (had to replace the previous unit as i had SD decoder before) - this is at the dish - until Signal Strength and Signal Quality were both around 98-100%. i then made sure all LNB cables were fitted firmly. Then went to Advanced Options and re-scanned all networks. Switched decoder off, left off for say 2 minutes. Switched back on and all is now perfect. thanks again for everyone's input.
