I went to Cats Digital last week and was told verbally I could get the Canon 7D and 70-200 lens at R38,000.00 inc VAT as a bundle.

I get the money together and make sure this morning he has stock and the R38,000.00 is still valid - and he tells me it is.

Just before leaving to collect, the manager of Cats phones me and says because of the Tsunami, the lens has gone up to R25,999.00 taking the bundle to R41,000.00 - R3,000.00 more than what they've told me this entire week!

There is a plus though - Orms will give me the price that Cats initially quoted .. so I'm getting it from them. They say R100.00 and I should get it early next week.

Not cool, Cats - but Orms ftw!

Apparantly there is a shortage and most people are out of stock. I chatted to a few shops that had no stock or one. In fact, this is Orms last one in stock ... and I assume the stock shortage will push up pricing.

However I know they had this lens for the past few weeks! They just know they'll get someone willing to pay the extra for it if they hold on to the fact. In fact, the manager said 'you can check around .... but if don't come right, ours is here now'

My 70-200 just arrived this morning - fortunately without any tsunami related price hikes. :)

It's Japan, 2 months and back to full production.

 Geez, you don't play around...you actually taking the 2.8 IS MKII!

At this stage I may battle to get it due to pricing and stock :/

You'll need this in the mean time -

How far are you away from that?
Isn't that classed as a macro shot?

I read in the You magazine that Canon will not be re-opening their factory in Japan after the quake and tsunami. I think we can expect quite a long shortage of Canon gear worlwide for a while.

How does a thread called "Not Cool!" end up with a very cool Mr Potato Head? I'm so delighted that I am too poor to be affected by a lens shortage.

May save me some money
