CAPE TOWN – Transport Minister Dipuo Peters said on Wednesday there are not enough traffic officials to police the country's motorists.

Twenty-two people were killed in Pinetown in KwaZulu-Natal last week when a truck crashed into four taxis and a car.

In the Western Cape at least 13 people died at the weekend in a rash of road accidents.

The minister said she intends meeting with police department officials to discuss the possibility of the South African Police Service (SAPS) helping with road safety initiatives.

“We could extend the number of traffic officials with the services of the police. We have more than 10 million cars on our roads and only about 18,000 officers. On average we’ve got 2,000 per province, which is not enough.”

Nope just get the fkrs that are already cops to start working, be honest and abide by the laws they enforce.

Waiting for the news article saying that SAPS is understaffed. Then we'll have an understaffed police force trying to do 2 jobs at once.

Harsher punishments that are actually enforced are needed.

Well look at jhb, do they even enforce number plates missing, taxi + 4x4 types making pavements an extra lane? Nope.. they sit in their chair and watch for speeders :p albeit other violations are occurring right in front of them. I've seen this happen and asked them why they didnt do anything.. response is always like.. phone the call centre, im just here for speedsters.. wooptidoo

Unless this changes adding extra traffic cops is like meh.. granted they can do more roadblocks for drunk driving. <-- do they even check tyres and stuff ? never seen them do this yet this would be a good point to check..

Nevermind that.... Tshwane Metro's latest stats revealed that they only have vehicles available 76% of the time...

This is the problem. Only there to make money and not to stop offenders from doing it again. That is also the reason they are always hiding behind bushes, pillars, buildings, boxes, lamp poles, Scamral gantries etc. Baasteds!! Do your job ffs!!

There are more than enough traffic officials, in holiday season they are found around every hook and cranny. They just need to get them to do their work for 12 months a year instead of 1 month a year.

Oh, please. What utter BS.
You can take a KFC bucket and place it next to any bridge and you'd see hundreds of Metro roaches crawling from under each nook and cranny. Maybe that's the problem, we're not doing enough to lure these lard asses from their hiding spaces.

They should start with that incompetent fat c**t who stood beside the road and watched as a car filled with drunk people ploughed into the side of my Tazz a few years ago, prompting her to carry her fat ass into the car as fast as she could carry herself so she could sped off promptly, saving here from doing some actual work.

That was the last time I even considered paying any form of traffic offence related BS they could throw at me. Living with the carnage on our roads is the unfortunate outcome of this failed state, but yeah, no use worrying about it since it'll probably never improve.

As stated by almost everyone, these days I only see Metro handling speeding cases, that, or they'd block off the entire ****ing road on my way to work at 7:30AM (wasting everyones time and causing them to be late/agitated even more than usual) just so they can spotpull some luxury cars, hoping for some over anxious and scared rich ******* to bribe them for traffic offences they shouldn't legally pay for in the first place.

That is shocking :wtf:

Now the worrying aspect about that is that they don't have a lot of vehicles. If they had 200 vehicles, 76% at any given time would be fine. But they don't. They have waaaaaay less than that.
