I just wanted to vent my fustration, I had ADSL installed after waiting over 6 months. After playing around I'm not at all impressed. A mud I play, which takes far less bandwidth then browsing, is slower then my IDSN line. Oh well vent over.

/start telkom exec mode
Har, har, har! Another sucker caught! *evil grin*
/end telkom exec mode

My sincere sympathies! ;)

I consider myself informed, however, I never had any idea just how pathetic the shaped account is. Someone point me in the right direction to the thread regarding the progress of the adsl findings?

please rename the thread : Not impressed with adsl, as offered by Telkom SA

The rest of the world reckons it is kicka$$

Hi werner, that's unfair! You're sitting in London, with real ADSL! Poor Slooth prolly never experienced real ADSL, thus the title of the thread! :D

Then the correct title should be:

Not impressed with ADSL
Not impressed with Telkom
Not impressed with ICASA
Not impressed with DOC

i dunno what mud is

but for overseas gaming isdn is faster
for local gaming adsl kicks the hell outta it

dont your pages load faster?
arent you saving you money on phone calls

hmm ive got adsl had isdn and i love my adsl line

mud = multi user dungeon
text based game. Think Dungeon Siege, WOW, etc. but in text.
Cool huh? :)

Yeah, your mud is probably using shaped ports, does it work via Telnet? Otherwise try a VPN solution like nukecap. R60 a month and it would probably work a whole lot better.

I didn't know that Telnet was actually shaped, but if so then I'm afraid thngs may only get worse. Packet loss on shaped accounts towards the end of the month is enormous so even though Telnet takes up hardly any bandwidth, most of your traffic has the hell prioritised out of it...

Telkom :- 917289371982
Consumers :- 1

Juice

Telnet is shaped, says so on the telkom internet site. I've tried port 443, but that's shaped too. So my guess is that telnet is shaped as well as ports. A whole month of playing MUD wouldn't even dent the 3gig cap, sad state of affairs.

Okay ... confession time ;).

"My name is tibby.dude and I still play text adventure games on my 66600GT".

There is a whole cottage industry of folks programming these old Infocom sort of games.

"Dudes" is a cool word to use. Ahh is "cool" also 80's? MUDS are kinda like those adventure books you used to get. You read the first page and it says, "do you want to do X" then turn to page 10 or "do you wanna do Y" then turn to page 12. Anyone remember that? or is it just me.
