So basically what happens, is every night between roughly 19:00 and 22:00, my latency goes all spiky and I can't stream audio, play games etc or anything that requires a stable line.

I have 3 accounts from 3 different ISP's : Cybersmart, Webafrica, and Axxess.
They all give the same problem so I take it its not their fault. I'm with Cybersmart as my main, so they get the Telkom techies at my house in less than a day (record of 12 hours after I sent an e-mail :P).

Story of the Telkom Techies:
Now the first techie told me that those are peak hours and that there is nothing they can do for me, because this is how it is and will be. He follows that with a nice business speech blablabla...

Two days later another techie comes and says that it may be the cold weather owning the cable when it turns night. We have the main Telephone box/pole and cable running down into our property and then directly to the "Central". He diverted us to another cable but it didn't fix anything.

My internet is fine any other time of the day. I live in Somerset West area, near Cape Town with a 384kbps line.

I would like to know if anyone has advice on this and if there is anyone in my area also experiencing this.

Have a look at your line statistics when you are experiencing the lag and post it here. Should give you an indication of where the fault lies.

Thank you. I will do it tomorrow when it comes around again.

Sounds like your local DSLAM is being over-utilized. Alot of the posters on this forum experience a very similar problem, myself included.

I spoke to my one friend who had a similar problem and he told me they had to replace his DSLAM to fix the problem so I'm going to suggest it to the next techie.

Your DSLAM is over subscribed in the backhaul department.
