not receiving cell broadcasts

I just just inserted a new MTN pay as you go sim into an old Samsung Galaxy S3.

In Settings -> More networks -> Mobile Networks, I have set the "Network mode" to "GSM only"

Then in Messaging -> Settings I have enabled "CB activation". In "Channel configuration", I have tried "All channels", and "My channel" with channels, 40, 50, 100, 250, 900, 910 enabled.

I would expect to get the cell broadcasts into my SMS inbox, or at least some sort of feedback, however, nothing is happening.

I tried this same sim card in a Samsung Galaxy S5, and a Huawai Ascend g510.

Am I doing something wrong?

I am in the cape town, durbanville area, if this makes a difference

Leave the network on auto. Load the mymtnza widget .. will get ticker for mtnzone (i assume thats why you want the CB)

Hi

Cell Broadcast does not work on 3G, if you switch to EDGE then it will work. What you can do is dial *135*1# and activate the notifications, this will allow you to receive SMS notifications for zone when on 3G as the cell broadcast option will not work.
