First of all if this has been covered in another thread please point me in the right direction.....

When I put the GlobeTrotter card into some laptops it comes up with the message "Not Registered To A Network" where it would usually say "Vodacom SA". I normally have to wait it out and it eventually comes right, sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes 1 hour! I'm getting a little fed up with having to wait, anyone come across this yet, causes ?

Hmm...do you have a 64K SIM?

Also what are the first 5 digits of your 3G number? (082-99, for example)

What profile are you using ?

If your using 3G Only or GPRS Only and there is no coverage or low signal it could happen.

Morning V3G, Diago:

Profile is 3G preferred, lights are both blinking once at regular intervals, when left alone it eventually picks up the correct signal etc. First 5 digits of the number are 082561, another is 082376 and are 64K sims. Problem only seems to occur with the GlobeTrotter cards.

Revision: 3.15.OHd (Date: Feb 06 2006, Time: 12:53:15)
XP SP2

What I do is, kill the VMConnect process (Dashboard) in task manager because sometimes a simple exit-program still has the dash in suspenders then I stop the 3G card in the taskbar tray, remove it, count to ten, reinsert it, wait for card to initialise, start the dash and more often than not it'll work.

Can I ask why wud that make any difference?

From my non technical understanding it's the following

Each number range is handled by different base station (Masters). It has happened before that certain of these stations go down cause of Telkom outages etc and that particular range of numbers can't connect to GRPS or sometimes even the network.

I've had it that my 3G number would be down completely but my normal voice line would work, and vice versa since they are both housed on different master base stations on the vodacom side. This also indicates whether your a contract, prepaid or vodacom special client - (Vodacom employees who get the nice and friendly free numbers - But I think that is now exclusively for upper management - But v3g may be one of the luck one's ;) )

hehehe ok so its got to do with the HLR's and the BSC's..ok , make sense...

PS (hic) can I get one of those numbers hehehehe
