Hi all.

I have a contract coming up for renewal and was thinking about getting the samsung note 10+ on a 36m contract. However the pricing in feb 2020 was R699pm x36months and the pricing for june is now R899pm x36months.

How can a phone that has depreciated in value cost more now in june than it did in feb???

The Rand kind of lost 30%

Consider waiting until August when the Note 20 is released - the price normally drops when a new model is released (depending on the Rand/$).

I hope the P30 pro prices come down now the P40 pro has been released. Although cell companies maths work in mysterious ways...

I am also looking for something decent on Vodacom or MTN contract, but atm they all feel like Vaseline deals.

Febr the Note 10+ was worth R24439 , repayment R699 x 36 = R25164

June its worth R20779, repayment R899 x 36 = R32364

So you will now be paying exactly R7200 more for a phone that depreciated by R3660.

To put that into more perspective:

Febr you would have paid R725 interest over 36 months on a R24439 phone, good deal I think percentage wise.

June you are paying R11585 interest over 36 months for a R20779 phone?

Its late hope my maths are ok, maybe someone less tired can give us the percentages on that.

Sucks, but I guess February must have been some kind of special, maybe valentines, or to combat the January slump.

Junes increases on the other hand can be more sinister, corona tax? Extra markup for the missed lock down sales? Increases due to the forced drop on data prices... Insert conspiracy theories :p
