A friend has an old 15.1" HP notebook that overheats, I'm going to clean out the dust etc but he's dead set on getting a cooling pad with fans et al.

Anyone have any experience with these and can suggest a decent one? So far the CM X1 looks pretty good.

I've got one of those cheap BidorBuy specials for R99.00. You know the one with the blue LED's underneath the fans.
Works like a charm for me. I leave it running about 16 hours a day and no problems yet.

I also have a cheapy someone bought in Singapore for me. It plugs into USB, has 3 fans and a few USB ports... You can never have enough USB ports :)

Whenever my notebook is on, so is the device. I've been using it for a few months now and the only complaint is that one of the fans sometimes makes a noise.

I can't tell you the brand or model, as the only writing on the thing is "USB FAN", "Made in China" and the electronic specs (0.9W, etc).

I have the Targus unit (bought from IC for around R800), it has two fans at the bottom and a powered USB hub. Works well but a little noisy. Also have the Ergo-Tilt (www.ergo-tilt.com), it is just a stand but well ventilated and costs around R100 i think.

I have the Coolermaster NotePal P1 bought for the princely sum of R150. Has two fans and two USB ports. Has been working like a charm for more than two years now.

Only complaint is that you can hear it in a quiet room.
