Hi all

I'm looking for a notebook in the region of R6500/R7500. Will be used for email/browsing/office work and the odd movie. I'm a bit stuck trying to find the best unit.

Looking for (more or less):

- 15" widescreen
- 2GB DDR2 ram
- 250GB HDD
- 3+ hours battery life
- Plays 1080p video
- No excessive heat

A few options I've found:

- Acer Extensa

Core2Duo T6400
2GB DDR2-667
250GB
2 hour battery (booo)
+-R6500

I can get a good deal on Acers but their reliability and build quality leaves a LOT to be desired from previous experience.

- ASUS K50iN-SX243

Pentium Dual Core T4300
2GB DDR2-800
500GB
3 hour battery

Looks perfect but I don't believe we get anything faster than a Dual Core T4300 here (T6500 Core2Duo model is available overseas).

What are you comments regarding dual core vs core2duo? What will the speed differences be between these 2? Any recommendations for other units?

Have a look at Makro, they have some special on their old Vista notebooks.

Mecer, eww! I'd never!

The HP looks good but a bit of a brick?

Function > form when it comes to computers but the ASUS looks really slick:

. Still looking for the full package though.
