Notebook vendor still resists Vista

Despite the release of Windows Vista Service Pack 1, which addresses many of the issues with the operating system, at least one South African vendor is still advising its users to opt for Windows XP.

Christopher Riley, CEO of The Notebook Company, says Vista “just doesn’t work properly with some applications and users battle, for instance, to install things like blue tooth adapters and add-on devices”.
He says the company continues to advise its clients to opt for the “more stable” XP operating system and sales between the two are currently 80/20 in the favour or XP.
“We naturally cannot force users to use XP but all our salespeople have been advised to rather try and get clients to buy XP.
“Vista is just not a stable operating system for notebooks. I don’t know what Microsoft is doing about it, but I think some more R & D would be a good idea.”
On the up side, drivers are becoming more available for Vista, which was a serious problem a few months ago.
“But we are still sitting with some third party software issues – although they are improving.
"Our technical guys have been experiencing problems with Vista lately where 3G connections kept being dropped.
"Vista is also very resource intensive – you need a minimum of 1Gb of RAM to run it. And very little is spare after that.”

low end laptops should not be shipped with vista

one wonders what he will do in jan when microsoft stop xp

i read somewhere that ms wont stop support in jan. they have extended it because of SP3. cant remember where i read it so it might be inaccurate. ;)
 
worked on an entery level notey (512 with 1.6 cel) it was so slow it must have added an hour to the job
 
well ya, been running vista on my superduper laptop and i dont dare close the screen and open it hoping that vista will still run. Vista starts up as normal for about 15 secs then the screen just goes black. All the updates and SP's have been done, so bleh.
