Isn’t it amazing how fast mobile computing has taken society by storm? It feels like yesterday when we still had to write everything down by hand on little notepads and pieces of post it notes and carrying around nasty diaries, whereas today we are crunching up little virtual notes in One Note and using Google Calendar to keep track of our own lives all on mobile devices so small they fit in most women’s handbags. It seems as if we are moving towards a world where computing or having access to some form of computing power on the run will be an essential part of being human.
Notebooks, net books and web capable mobile phones are becoming extensions of us. Some of us carry our lives around in these machines! My dad for instance now takes a Lenovo S10 with him wherever he goes. He is not that keen on mobile computing but he loves the fact that when he needs to, the option is there.
Sleek, stylish and portable
Packaging notebooks and net books have become a bit of an art nowadays. Thin and light is in. it doesn’t necessarily have to be small, but it does have to be cool.
Notebooks with little pictures on their covers are coming to market with flowers and butterflies being the main motif and as you can see in the pictures in this parade for the HP Envy notebooks, sleek design and “cool” is an essential part of product design. Who would have thought that 20 years ago?!!? Pretty girls walking on a catwalk parading in beautiful designer clothes ready for Fashion TV stardom and able to blog about it right there and then!
Mobile computing is the in thing and everybody that can afford the R4000 it takes to get into the ultra mobile net book crowd is doing so and they are indeed going mobile. I am not even referring to people in the IT industry. Everybody has an excuse to get online and mobile today! Naturally the main driving force is that innate need to communicate and everybody is communicating online. I would love to see figures on what contribution Facebook and related social media made to drive people to getting a computer or notebook and hooked up to the web. I think the statistics would be staggering!
Here in South Africa we are spoiled for choice with big brands offering some amazing products. From Samsung to Sony, Acer to Asus, you name them and they have something out there that will suit your needs and the good news is, it is becoming lighter, cheaper and faster by the minute! The manufacturers are out to make the weight and styling factors of the Macbook Air something ordinary.
What to expect soon
What prompted me to write this blog is the news about HP’s new Envy series coming to market later this year. They are gunning for the Macbook Air and Dell Adamo territory… Computing has never been this cool or this mobile!
