what hardware do you have?

i hope when u bought the stuff u checked it was working man

Try touching each of those sets of two pins with a screwdriver to short it without the need for power switch - when it start you have hit the right pins - attach pw switch to that.

Don't know if theyre colour coded but on gbyte mboards those pins are red.

How about you try resetting the BIOS via the battery. Maybe the previous person had some setting in there that is not going down well with your new gear combo.

Also, does it beep like most mobos do? (Assuming you plugged in the sys speaker).

yea but still if you dont get your money back, it would not have been worth it

how much did you pay btw?

there are so many things to check for...

plug in the speaker and see if you hear any warning bells.
take off the cpu cooler and switch it on and feel the cpu to see if its getting hot.
make sure the pins on the cpu are all ok (not bent etc)
if you can, test the cpu on a friends pc, or take it to a pc shop for them to test it for you.
also check the memory. make sure its in the correct slots and that the memory is the correct type for that motherboard. (ECC type)

From my little experiences:
either vga card isnt plugged in right, agp/pci-e port is dirty.
Memory card slots dirty/not plugged in right.
CPU damaged, damaged pins, dead cpu
lastly mboard might be f-ed, my board was like that after this one hectic thunderstorm a few years back...static baaaad...had to replace the board...

Cant think of nothing else for now

HP should be able to tel you which pins are which...try the website and if not there email them
