Nothing strange about consecutive Lotto numbers

I remember there was one instance more than a decade age of the Lotto numbers being in a sequence like 23,25,27,29,31,33.

Wasn't exactly those numbers but it was in the 20/30 range.

What is interesting is that all 20 winners picked their numbers manually, with no quick picks via the national lottery system.

This is the only weird part about the story. I wouldn't have thought that people would pick numbers like this.

Anyway, if people believed that the lottery is "rigged" and fewer people play, then good. Way too many people somehow believe that they can expect to win money playing this game, when the long run outcome for almost everyone will be a loss.

20 people xD

Imagine waking up, seeing that you have won in the 100mil+ powerball jackpot only to see later you have to share it between 20 people.
LOL, i have seen it in UK and once here before where there were so many winners that 2nd place got more money out than the winners

No, like it was mentioned in the article, the mathematical probability to get consecutive numbers is exactly the same as any other number selection.
sure, and technically its completely possible to walk outside and die from a lightning bolt striking your head from a clear sky.
just before somebody asks if you want to buy their Ferrari for 10c,

its possible, completely possible, but infinitesimally small chances.
more likely the guy programming in the numbers made a mistake.

A record 33 winners in the national lottery jackpot of R19 095 868 was announced on Saturday.

Each winner received R111 901. The winning lotto numbers were 25, 33, 31, 23, 29, 27 and the bonus ball 20.

"This lotto draw was quite fascinating because of the sequence of odd numbers that were drawn," said Uthingo public relations officer Shenanda Janse van Rensburg.

"Many people tend to play sequential numbers. If you put the numbers in sequence they read 23, 25, 27, 29, 31 and 33.

"In this case it is the highest recorded in our country, but in Australia in 1993, 150 people shared the total winnings."
