Hi there i have 2 usb modems from vodacom in my office atm...the one is the MC950D and the other one is the Hauwai E172. Now the problem i have is my MC950D does not connect to the HSDPA net but the E172 does without problems. It changes to hsdpa net when you it to and goes back to 3G net when its in idle mode. I have done a speed testand got Figures of 2600kb/s download and 800kb/s upload which i think is ok ping of 20. (this is the E172)

The MC950D only stays on the slow 3G net and is way slower than the E172. It does not even pick up the HSDPA net AT all...it stays blue and frickin sow.

I tried using the software it came with and also tried the new sofware V9.3.0.9237. and still no luck.

I got this one as Vodacom said its the fastest one available but its worse than the e172.

V3G i need your assistance please or anyone else who is willling to help Thanks in advance:)

It sounds as if it's faulty.

Take the Novatel MC950D into VodaCare at VodaWorld for them to test it. If it's faulty, they should replace it.

which one is better on the vodacome network? Novatel MC950D or huawei E172

Hi there,

I am looking into buying a USB modem for internet use but cannot decide between the Novatel MC950D or the Huawei E172. Am planning to use it on the Vodacom network. Does anyone know which one is better?
Thank you very much

I think the only advantage the Novatel has over the Huawei is the fact that it can accommodate an external antenna which AFAIK the E172 can not. Both should work fine on the Vodacom network.

People have however reported issues with both. If you can still find a E272 get one of those. It really is a great modem and can also accommodate an external antenna.
