Now it's my time for a new pc.

CPU: 2400 Core i5 - 3.10GHz, Socket 1155, 8MB L3, 2.0Gb/s DMI Interface, hy het 'n fan en hy loop heel koel.
Mobo: Cold Lake: Intel Media Series, Cold Lake, LGA1155, 4xDual DDR3 1333, Graphics on CPU (HDMI, DVI-i), 1xPCI-x16, 2xPCI-x1, 3xPCI, 5xSATA, 2xSATA3, 1x eSATA, Gbe Lan, 8ch-Sound, Max 12xUSB, ATX, 2x usb 3.0
Memory: 2x 2 gig 1333mhz (Memory is heel goed wat ek in het. Alle memory is deesdae baie goed. Die spoed is ook bo average)
Screen: 24" LG HD 1920x1080
PSU+Box: Midi Tower case met Huntkey 550 Watt PSU
HDD: 500gig WD (Ek sal nie sommer 'n ssd koop nie, maar dit hang van jou af. Die performance wat jy wen is nie die geld werd nie. Dit sal ook die prys met R1200 opstoot en jy kry ook net 'n 80 gig waar ek vir jou 'n 500gig gee, 7200rpm)

I can get this secondhand pc for R4850, Which I dont think is bad for the price. I completely trust the seller, I know the guy. He do a lot of video editing and photoshop with the pc. What do you guys think?
 
A thing that I don't like is the huntkey 550W or I should say 200w psu. rather go for corsair cx430w
 
True, but that I can upgrade later, or even now? But what do you guys think overall about the setup and price?

If it's 60% / 6/10ths of the current price, it's a good deal.

Second-hand PC parts usually depreciate by 40 - 50%.

From what I gathered on what I want, it would cost me over R 10 000 for it, and this secodnhand pc it very near to what I want. So I think its a good deal?

I think it's closer to about R7 - 8k new? Price is quite good, and it's probably convenient. What's warranty like? Can you return stuff direct to suppliers, otherwise to whom to you return faulty parts?

No doubt it's got more than enough power for your needs. Gaming would need the addition of a half decent graphics card for around R1k. Overclocking would need a better branded mobo (minimum P67 like Asus P8P67) and a K CPU like i5-2500k mentioned.

Okay if you take the exact parts what I get secondhand, then yes, maybe the price is quite high, and no, no warrentee. If I take the "quote" Pada gave me, then it will cost roughly R10 000, for a new setup. Guess I must weigh the two, pay more for a new setup I want, or pay half the price for a secondhand setup, with no warrentee. If I think about it, maybe push it for a new setup.
 
Are you sure you can't get a warranty on most of the expensive components such as the cpu, motherboard and screen? Those components can't be much older than a year even.
If you're going for a 2nd hand pc, you should ask for proof of payment at the very least. That way you should be able to make use of the remaining warranties.

This is what I would pay for those individual components as long as the expensive ones still have 1yr or more left on their warranties:
Cpu: 1400
M/b: 700
Case and psu: 350
Hdd: 300
Ram: 100
Dvd: 100
Screen: 1200 * I'd need to know the exact model nr to give a better estimation
keyboard and mouse: 100 * if it is a decent set
legal windows 7 home premium x64: 700
total: 4950

without the warranty I would advise not to take it, especially since it comes with a Huntkey psu.
 
I'm still waiting for a reply on an email I sent the guy about the warrentees. But appart from that I still think its an option.
 
If it has warranties left + a legal windows x64 license included then it is a good option for that price.
 
So seems like its not a good deal after all. Windows is not included, so if I add windows 7, I'll end at approx R6500, then I rather add a little bit and get what I want. So I'm back on track.

Ram: Transcend JetRam High-Performance 4GB DDR3-1333 @ rebeltech for R178.
Windows 7 home premium @ Pcint for R1020

The HDD I will take "borrow" a harddrive from my work pc.
The chassis I will get at Matrixwarehouse.
Is it possible to have just one ram stick, or maybe better to have 2?

What do you guys think? I'm still waiting for Esquire to clear my account so I can check their prices too.

You can use 1 memory module if you want to. The performance penalty over 2 memory modules won't really be visible outside benchmarks or really memory intensive applications.

The Asus/Gigabyte Z68 chipset motherboards costs considerably more than the Intel one, except perhaps the Gigabyte GA-Z68P-DS3 @ R1387 (that has only 1x HDMI for video output). The next cheapest Asus/Gigabyte one is the Asus P8Z68-M Pro @ R1,643.

For jacqvt's use, he won't need to overclock the CPU that far, since its not going to be used for a high-end gaming PC. The 2500k is for the better integrated GPU.
