Now what ?

woke up this morning and my pc is off (ialways leave it running to download) i notice my microwave reset as well so i think there must off been a balckout or lightning strike or something.

okay the problem now is that my router aint working :wtf: the lights come on except the ethernet light ?
so i thought the cable was fried so i tried another network cable but no effect

tried reloading the ethernet drives incase they got deleted somehow but still no effect :wtf:

dont know what else to try ? it looks as if its working just not picking it up on my pc and ofcourse the ethernet light remains off not even red just off. the others are green except for the internet ofcourse which is red ( i have a shortcut on my desktop that i use to connect i think its called a pppoe connection ?)

anyways is my router fried ? what else can i try before buying a new router ?

oh the router is a billion bipac 5200s pocket size one

how would i test that ? the lan port is on my mobo not on a separate card. but everything else is working fine on the mobo so how would i know weather its the mobo or router ?

well you need to hook up another pc to the router to test it, I just know when I had a similar problem it was the lan card on the pc that blew

Was your phone line also on a surge protector? because if it wasn't, it can happen that the lightning strike went through the phone line and fried your ethernet ports. Happened to me a while back.

yip it was. both on a surge plug

ah well guess i'll just have to suck it up and get another router

This kind of thing happens to me 3/4 times a year. Its a surge via the phone line. Imo surge protectors just limit the damage, they don't prevent it. And at a couple of hundred bucks for a use once surge protector its hectic. Sometimes it ony pops the port on the router, sometimes it also pops the pot on the hub.
I have a 4 port router of which one o the lan ports has already popped. I switched it to another pot and it works perfectly. Sometimes it fries the router totally.

Find another PC or a lappy and plug it in. If there's still nothing, THEN it may be the router, but that's unlikely.

Exactly same thing happened to me, disabled the on-board nic in the bios & bought an el cheapo (R52) network card - sorted the problem out.

Rather test the router on another computer.
If the router works, buy a new Network Card. Like R100 or R150.
