Now, why can't Sentech do something like this?

Rumba, a local ISP has had some connectivity issues. Here's what they're doing about it...

Odendaal says users will still be able to pay R49 a month for an ISDN line and will not pay for the week in which they were disconnected. Users will also receive free use for three weeks to make up for the loss of connectivity, he says. “While our deal with XSInet will see our margins lowered slightly, we are happy with the deal.”

And that's what their users are getting back for one week of no service!

Simple answer, because they are crazy. How are they going to make money out of R49 a month for ISDN? Their contention must be huge. I mean they will have to give XSINet a decent portion and the government for VAT so at the end of the day "Rumba" is now making like R20 a month. Not very much considering their costs and the bandwidth costs. But yes, given this, they are still prepared to give their users a free period.

Either somebody involved is a Sentech subscriber on the side. Or they know that they are squarely in the spotlight so they better save face. It is super good advertising as well, users have the confidence of knowing that the ISP "cares" .

Hey guys,

The Rhumba R49 deal is only for the first 1000 uses , thereafter it is usual R100+ subs.

Also only R49 for 18 months.

Catch-a-goo-goo....

It's the principle that counts...goodwill from a supplier. I do it sometimes for my clients when someone screws up. Feedback from customer: "Hey, we're all human. At least you were honest with me."

Dunno if anyone would ever say that about Sentech? Dialup ISP's are a numbers game and if you have good backend systems, you can run a nice profitable show.

Bottom line is, in life, you get what you pay for. My R 650.00 a month to Sentech is now a grudge spend - I understand now how customers view IT. Quite an eye-opener. Sentech does not add value to my life at this stage, more hassles than anything else. If I can get DSL where I live, I'd take it immediately.
