UK cable operator NTL plans to boost the speed of its residential broadband connections to hold on to its number one position in the market. The company said it will <u>more than double speeds</u> to 12Mbps, 2Mbps and 3Mbps, but <b>prices for the service will remain the same</b>. NTL saw third quarter profits for its residential division rise to GBP405 million (USD518 million). It added 187,900 customers in the quarter and 83,600 broadband users.

Hey there Telscum, care to double our ADSL speeds but keep the price the same? Maybe you would prefer to halve the speed but only give a 25% saving? Well, after all is said and done, less is more, isn't it?
 
I'm not sure whether I want to laugh or cry. This is normal procedure. A company strives to offer better service while keeping prices down. But I guess that doesn't need to apply when it comes to a monopoly. I find it quite sickening. But then again, it shows Telkom up for being the greedy swines they really are.

Seems like this is becoming a worldwide trend, nz doing it too (see reech's "mores the misery" thread under news discussions).
I bet it won't take long for those forward-thinkers at Telkom to catch on and start dishing out extra bandwidth at no extra cost. [:D]
