Hi,

Been given a NUC7JY - this does not come with RAM or a Hard Drive / SSD.

Does it matter if I use DDR4 2666 or DDR4 3200 RAM in it?

From what I have read it will only take 8 gigabyte of RAM, can maybe 16 gigabytes be installed in this device?

Thanks

CPU is either J4005 or J5005
Fortunately almost exactly identical.

Max RAM speed is 2400MT/s for both, so anything faster than 2400 will only run at 2400.
Maximum addressable memory is also only 8GB, so the device will most likely not boot with 16.
It supports dual channel so 2x 4GB sticks would be your best bet.

There are forums (reddit) out there with people claiming to have 16GB running on these CPUs, but as with everything, manufacturer says 8GB max, so attempting anything more is on you.

Mine has a J4005 CPU, so I don't see much advantage to putting in more than 8 GB.

With regard to RAM speed, as long as I buy 2x 4GB of identical speed, it should work, and not cause me issues. So I can grab whatever is cheapest and put it in and it will work.

Your insight is appreciated.

This, 16GB RAM in a celeron/pentium PC is just 🤡.
