Nuclear-powered passenger aircraft

Nice thanks, I still don't get the conversion process and what they actually use as fuel, they don't explain it very well.

If I read the jetengine wikipedia article correctly, heat is the main factor in jet engine propulsion , while the combustion part is used mostly to obtain heat, and not compression. Now they simply use nuclear heat instead op chemical heat. I also understand (I think) that since air is the coolant for the reactor, airflow has to be maintained even when the aircraft is stationary
Of course I could have read the article wrong and I'm talking out my a**

LOL, yes I read it like that too, but how will they maintain airflow when stationary, or slowing down for landing? Well it interesting is all I can say.

Who knows.... In other news, ACSA invests billions into Clicks' safeway fans...
:p

If they were to use the nuclear heat directly to heat up air there would be a constant flux of air blowing through their heat exchangers due to air convection. While the airplane is standing still they can always replace the air with water to cool the heat exchangers directly if they should require more cooling.
Alternatively carrying a huge ammount of water on the air plane are not a big issue since they have the capacity from the empty fuel tanks (Depends on how much water they will actualy need). Water is also a nice shield for nuclear radiation...

Were there not some nuclear powered satellites developed as well? Think there were some news a few years back of a nuclear satellite that have crashed in Canada.
