Anyone with suggestions - hoping someone comes up with something I haven't tried.
Long story short - wife's MBA is doing some funny things, and the 'standard' solutions suggested by various articles/support sites, are not working.
1.) Mac App Store is not doing anything except showing blank/white pages for all of the content tabs.
2.) Safari AND Chrome are loading blank/white pages (content is 'there' underneath the cursor), but is not rendering/being loaded. As in, resting over an 'invisible' link, sees the tool-tip confirm what the underlying link is - clicking on it, loads that link through to a new page, which also doesn't render, remains blank.
Firefox is working just fine, weirdly.
3.)Messages will not open its main page - but since it's been deactivated on her MBA since the beginning, not sure if this is related (I can open its preferences window, and activate/log-in, but cannot open the main message/thread window).
4.)Photos is acting up - again, not sure if this is related, but when selecting a photo thumbnail, as soon as the springboard effect launches - just when the photo gets to the point where it expands to its full-view, it reverts to a blank page. So the thumbnails of the photos are visible in the side-bar, or main view as thumbnails, but as soon as you select a photo to view it in full in the main viewer, it blanks...
This has me thinking there is something funny going on with rendering of images.
I'm not clear if this is to blame - but her company's IT has her running a deprecated version of Firefox in order to allow for the Silverlight plugin to still work.
She needs the latter to be able to access work-related websites.
They also have her running Adobe Flash (which I deactivated on my Mac years ago).
Neither Flash, Firefox nor Silverlight are running the latest versions (I think Silverlight might actually have been discontinued even).
No doubt the above poses serious security issues, which probably explains why she was compelled by the IT department to install a Sophos AV program - the cynic in me thinks this is to try and pick-up anything bad happening from her accessing the web with a 4-version old Firefox, and older FLASH version... I presume Silverlight is possibly problematic as well, from a security-perspective.
Any thoughts on if the latter could be related to what is happening?
I've tried plenty of tricks so far, and nothing is making a dent....
Removed the application caches; played around with location settings for purposes of MAS; removed PLIST files; Did the PRam reset; Logged-in as Guest User (same issues); Logged in to Safe-Mode (same issues); Rebooted; Restarted; Checked Activity Monitor and killed processes related to the affected Apps, force-quit and restarted. Oh, and whereas suggestions were made to disable various Safari plug-ins, that surely cannot be the root since it doesn't explain what is happening with the MAS and Photos (assuming the issues are related)...
She's running the latest version of El Capitan...
Preferred not to upgrade, due to the later issues with PDFs, which she uses plenty of, daily.
Was thinking of upgrading now... only I cannot get the MAS to work... :crylaugh:
Would REALLY appreciate some suggestions!
