Is it possible to block a number on your phone? So that for instance a certain person cannot call or SMS you. Just an interesting thought I had...

I had a Samsung that could do exactly that...think a e340 clamshell phone. My current SE does the inverse - can specify which numbers are allowed to phone you (which is pretty useless actually). What phone do you have?

It's a Nokia 6280. I'm not interested in blocking a number, just wanted to know if it can be done. Didn't know it was phone specific though. If, for example, my number is blocked on your Samsung, what would happen if I try to phone and SMS you?

Service providers are supposed to be able to provide this service. Though they choose not to. So the onus rests with the subscriber to do it. Which means phone-specific ;)

It seems to be a feature on some phones, but not a standard. If you phone me and your number is blocked on my phone, you get a 'The subscriber is not currently avail.' or something like that...
