Number porting query

Question regarding porting.

I have a vodacom contract expiring in Jan.
But I want to open up a contract with MTN to get the One X.
I wanted to port my Voda number in December so that the penalty is not too high.
However, the MTN salesman tells me that the port can only happen immediately and not at this later stage.

Is this true?

Sounds right

Technically, MTN could set you up with an interim number and then swop later for the port, but that is certainly not standard, and commercially they would not do it without a direct instruction from someone very senior.

The salesman is just being lazy. It would create some extra work for him and he is not inclined to do this.

I have had this from other sales and service people before. They just tell you the solution that is easiest for them and say its take it or leave it. Go to another shop or call them and get someone whose home language is English.
