Hi

I hope someone can help me. I am wanting to get a contract from Cell C as their rates are so decent currently. I am currently on a Vodacom contract. I would like to know if anyone knows the process of porting your Vodacom number to Cell C and then having a new number allocated to your Vodacom contract. Is this possible? What's the best way to go about this?

Thanks in advance ;)

I am aware of the porting. You get free porting and rica with the Cell C contracts. It's the part where, the number is ported to Cell C and the Vodacom contract is still active, but now it has no number. That is the part that confuses me.

I changed my number on a Cellc contract last year, I think it cost R250 so maybe Vodacom allows you to change the number on your contract was well?

You go to a Cell-C store and port the number. Vodacom will automatically assign a new number to your contract and continue billing.

I am surprised Voda does this... I highly doubt MTN or Cellc would do this?

Just spoke to cancellations. its true. As soon as you port, the sim gets assigned a substitute number. :)

Why are you surprised? How else do you think it would work?

It works exactly the same way with MTN. Cell-C are a different story though. About a year ago, I ported a number away from them halfway through a two year contract. They allowed the port to go through, but then claimed their systems couldn't assign a new number. I don't know if they've sorted this out yet, so first get them to swap your contract number with a new prepaid number, then do the port.

I can still hear the lambs scream at night :p

Almost my entire grade 12 class is in the process of porting or ported to cellc (pay as you go) and none of us reported any issues. I don't know about contracts. Because us students do not have a fixed income we do not qualify for contract phones. Cellc rocks with all the freebies when recharging.

Are you sure MTN would allow me to port my number and just get assigned a new contract number?
