Nvidia 9600GT vs 8800GT

according to them the 9800 series will outperform the 8800 ULTRA by a minimum of 30%

Official specs not out, card not benched yet and the links link to things said months ago ie they had even less of a clue about what to expect than we do.

Those threads are going on as if ATI/AMD is dead and buried but guess what at present who is perf king (just in case you do not know it is the 3870 X2)

Is 3870x2 similar to the GX2 or is it Crossfire? How much does it cost?

its basically the same type of setup as a GX2. Two GPU's on one card.
 
Ok did some quick research. Seems the HD is around R5,500-R6,000.

Its Guru3D stats

But it seems that the 9600GT in SLI beats or is at least breathing heavily behind it. The cost difference is probably about R1,500-R2,000 in favour of the SLI config. Which gives some spare cash to actually buy a SLI capable board.

Which would also lead me to believe that the GX2 is probably gonna do unmentionable things to the ATI.

I will have to take this opportunity to say that I have always seemingly had a softer spot for nVidia as opposed to ATI. But I don't think what I have presented above would fail a test of logic from someone who was neutral.

lol will not argue it does seem to be the facts atm, just not interested in the extra power needs and more importantly the quite possible heat that will be generated :)

p.s. dual 9600's is 2 cards the 3870x2 is a single card :p

Insane in the fact that It's HUGE and will cover a mATX mobo I think for SLI you going to have to have a Tri-SLi mobo duno where your other cards are going to go then :confused:


Yup the 256mb hold's it's own for a bit but then is stomped on buy the 512mb version more so when you crank up the resolution and add DX10, this in turn put's me off DX10, even the high end cards suffer. So who's in fault Microsoft or Nvidia/ATI?
 
Ive been doing some research on both of these cards and is seems the 9600GT is keeping up with the 8800GT, now the 96 is 512mb and the 88 is only 320. Yet it still outperforms the 96gt. And seeing as the 88GT has DOUBLE the shaders of the 96GT it and with the launch of 96gt the 88gt's prices will come down. With games to come in the future, they will be shader heavy thus choking the 9600GT. Money wize now the 9600GT is the bette option. But according to nvidia itl release at about +-R1700 - R2000. So why not rather w8 for the 88GT price to come down, ensuring your place in future games as the 96GT cannot provide..
An interesting fact : the 9600GT does not launch with dx10.1 support.. Wont make a huge diff, but it is just surprizing. Thats my views on the situation. Id rather w8 for the 9800 series with the proper core clock and shader modules than go get the 9600GT now. Any1 care to comment?

*DX10.1 doesn't fix anything in DX10, it makes 4xMSAA pattern compulsory instead of optional for the most part. DX10.1 doesn't add anything significant to the spec at all.

As for DX10 performance, as an API DX10 is significantly faster than DX9 there's no question about it. What people end up comparing is operating systems, and driver versions.

PCGH: Will the DX 10 visualization differ substantially from the graphics that are rendered with DX 9 hardware? What are the visuals that can only be rendered with shader model 4 hardware? Can you supply us with a visual proof via screenshot too?

PCGH: How much of a performance hit will the improved optics of DX 10 incur? With all details maxed out is a typical first gen DX 10 card already running at its limits?

Charles Beauchemin: No performance hit occurs, since no improved optics are implemented. However, when running on Vista, DirectX 10 version speed will be much faster than its DirectX 9 counterpart (also running on Vista).

Rather the drivers :P
XP driver development is about 8~9 years old. Vista is 1 and a bit :o
