nVidia FX5600 or ATI 9550?

9550...use omega drivers and overclock to 9600PRO levels.

But these cards are geeting old...try get your hands on a second hand 6600GT

9550 will be faster but need overcolocked.

Not that easy. I overclocked mine and lost the video and other capabilitys. ATI console would not even reconize it. Had to flash back an "original" firmware to regain proper working conditions but still believe I have some video out problems remaining!

:( So, if 250/400's 9550 can't oced, 325/550's FX5600 is fast.....

it can be overclocked and ther is no reason to flash firmware....

And it can be overclocked to 9600Pro levels...

I currenlt have one running at 430/270

Yeah, I can google too. I used ATI tool got the "best" values and to make it permanent created the bios file and loaded it. Bang problems. Speed OK but ATI console would not recognize it. Searched for a old bios and flashed it back. To today I still could not get it 100% as I think the bios is not the original. I also did it with the RADEON 7000 and got exact the same problem abd lost 2nd DVI output, After fixing bios the unit left streaks off colour and artifacts when booting in windows. Later i placed a heatsink salvaged from an old P1 chip and the artifacts and colour-bands disappeared. So yes if You can steer me to the correct method and procedure to successfully overclock these cards and retain the original 2nd DVI (rad7000) or SVideo (9550) then please do so! I played with RaBit V2.7 but first need a proper bios to start with me Think? Currently I get a Direct 3D error with ATI tool maybe because I used registry cleaner since upgrading the PC thus will first have to reinstall DX 9c?

There are modded drivers out there (including our softmod drivers) which circumvent that lock, ATITool can even remove it at runtime, but many people would prefer to use ATI's original drivers - that's where the Bios flash described here comes into play.

dont buy those cards dude

its like alcohol

all good when drinkin it but your just pissing your money down a drain

If you googled a bit more you would have seen that flashing bios was a risky idea...especially when the only thing it does is change the actual name of the card.

It has been proven that omega drivers perform better than standard ATI drivers and remove the locking.

Steps to OC 9550:
1. Determine if you have a 64-bit or 128-bit 9550 (if 64-bit you wont get a high OC)
2. Remove ATI drivers
3. Install Omega drivers and then ATItool (ignore the remove locking feature)
4. Find max Core
5. Find Max memory
6. Save

you done
