NVMe SSD Laptop Slot?

Is this a NVMe SSD slot in my laptop and will any type fit or must I purchase a specific type?

You have to get a specific size. Either a 2230 or 2242. If you take another pic a little zoomed out it might help in guessing which one.

Edit: the key slot is the other way now that I look at it which is a B key if I'm not mistaken. That slot may be for a LTE or Broadband card

Thanks for the reply, it is possible its not for SSD as the laptop is about 8 years old. Will have to do some research to figure it out...

Its a Lenovo Y410P - After lots of searching (as most links etc... don't work anymore) I found a thread with a person that says they installed a "MDM242-SBe-128" and got it to work with new OS and all. However when I search "MDM242-SBe-128" it shows a different type of connector to the one I posted in the picture above...

Careful M.2 SSDs come in many sizes.
The correct size that will fit the Y410P is a 42mm drive.
Mine is a 128Gb drive.

The boardview for this board does seem to indicate that the slot is for a SSD.

Possibly a drive like the following may work:

M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0x4 SSD Hard Disk 2242

Be aware m.2 does not mean nvme. M.2 is the physical connector while nvme is the underlying storage communications protocol, you get m.2 with sata which is not compatible with nvme and vice versa.

Yeah, this, got me at first. The drive wouldnt work in my external enclosure to copy of data.....realized it was a NVMe drive and not sata after investigating.

Why not just get a 2.5" SATA SSD?

Would like to keep it as additional storage as a 1TB or 2TB SSD is pretty expensive for my older laptop (8 years)... laptop also does not support upgrading to windows 11 etc... when the time comes...
