Update: We're following this and it seems as though the program will only work if your 360 is a Core/Arcade 360 unit. All Xbox 360 Pro serial numbers have come back saying that it is not eligible for the offers.

We'll keep you posted as we find out more details.

Original Story: We told you last week that Microsoft was looking at options to accommodate those who didn't have enough space on their 360s for the upcoming New Xbox Experience. Looks like they've found a solution. If you head over to Xbox.com, there is a service that will scan your serial number and console ID to ensure you don't have the 128 MB needed for the upgrade, then forward you to a page that will give you one of two different offers.

A refurbished 20 GB hard drive for $19.99 or a FREE 512 MB Memory Card.

I don't know about anyone else but a 20 GB hard drive for $19.99 is a pretty damn good deal for those new 360 Arcade owners.

Here's the 2 pages you'll need to check out to take advantage of these offers:

Oh man, no fair! ;) I guess it's reasonable compensation for anyone who had to purchase a 64Mb MU for a Core model.

i've got an extra arcade at home :D
cheap hdd here i come :)

:( so i entered my arcade's serial number and id but apparently i have enough free space available according to their records
well i did put the hdd from my pro on the arcade, so does that then mean they know how much free space i have?
and therefore if i enter my pro's serial and id it should be eligible because it doesn't have the hdd anymore? i'm confused now :/

Arcades come with 256mb cards.
You need to have less than 128 to qualify afaik

Yeah, I'm eligible as well, but the country field can't be changed and it currently reads US :(

yeah, that's what I thought (that it's not applicable to us) ..... maybe it's on the way though (other territories).

It seems not ... it looks like it's just the core models. Arcade's technically have enough space with a 256Mb, whereas Core's had none and had to buy a 64Mb MU.

Where would that be? I'm gonna launch a complaint saying I support them just as much as people in other countries and I have just as much right to this as anyone else.

Well, it will be countries with official Live support. SA isn't on that list

So once we have that, and Microsoft SA actually brokering partnerships with the local ICT sector, will we see real change.

*sigh*

If I have family overseas would they send it to them if I still have the xbox?
