THE National Youth Development Agency, a constitutional structure that is supposed to be non-partisan, is fully behind today's ANC Youth League economic freedom march and its executive managers are going to be part of it.
FLAYED: Andile NYDA executive chairman Andile Lungisa yesterday told Parliament the youth agency would be participating in the controversial march. Lungisa was briefing the portfolio committee on women, children and youth about the NYDA's annual report for the 2010-11 financial year.

"We support the march by the youth of the ruling party. ANCYL is not just a Mickey Mouse organisation ... that's why we will be with the young people when they marchbecause we know in our hearts that we will never make any difference unless we are there."

But Democratic Alliance youth leader Makashule Gana said the NYDA's support of the ANCYL march was in violation of the Public Service Act, which prohibited government institutions and their employees from making public statements that promoted or prejudiced the interests of any political party.

Gana said he would ask the Public Service Commission to investigate the conduct of the NYDA. "This blurring of the line between party and state is unacceptable. It is the equivalent of Treasury endorsing a DA election rally. Not only is it unacceptable, but it is unlawful and unconstitutional," said Gana.

"The NYDA's support for the ANC Youth League's march reveals its true agenda. It is a political operation masquerading as a public entity. It is farcical."

IFP MP Pat Lebenya waded in, saying it was outrageous for the NYDA to be using state resources to drum up support for a political event.

"It's really disturbing ... I would like an explanation because the NYDA is a government entity."

I'll just leave this here.

So great that our tax money is supporting this whole circus.

I understand that a lot of school children joined the march. Economic freedom before education?
