I'm going to post this here rather than in software...

Does anyone else have this problem -

I'm on a 4Mb adsl - if I begin downloading from sabnzdb, normally at around 380Kb/s and do nothing else on the pc, I have no problem and the file will download until completed.

If I open or refresh another website tab, the download will in a short period drop to zero and the other tabs will time-out.

The adsl on the router stays up as does the pppoe connection - so everything is all dressed up but going nowhere.

I presumed somehow the router does not like the extra load - yet, I can download torrents at full whack all day without ever ' losing connection'.

I use the Billion 7402x - and have tried two different routers with the same config - they both behave the same when downloading nzb's.

I've taken to using torrents during the dy and nzb's overnight when the pc is not used for anything else - but would prefer to dump torrents .... just too much of a pain.

Are the downloads running on the same machine that you're trying to multitask on? IIRC Windows has a limit on the amount of TCP connections before it starts acting wonky, and if you have your Usenet client configured to use lots of connections, this could occur.

You can confirm the issue the next time this happens - when you notice the disconnect issue, try using the net on another machine/device that is connected to your router, without resetting or doing anything to your router. If it works on the other device, then it's the Windows problem, in which case you should reduce the number of TCP connections that you're using in your Usenet client.

I'm running two/three pc's off a network behind a firewall.

When the traffic flow stops it removes connectivity on all the workstations.

And it did the loss of traffic flow thing before I ever loaded a torrent client.

When I lose connection ( or whatever the term is ) I just wait a minute or two and the 'connection' will come back automatically.

If I check the router at no time do I lose the adsl up status and the pppoe stays connected.

A complete boggler - but it must have something to do with Sabnzbd.

I run SABnzbd over a 7402x without hassles.

At one stage I had a similar problem with downloads slowing down, requiring that I reboot the router a couple of times in order to finish a download.

I logged faults with both Telkom & WA: nothing could be found.

Eventually - after three weeks or so - the problem "went away" of its own accord ...

NB: Is your router's firmware updated ? There was an issue - at least a year ago - with Billions slowing down; the work-around was to turn the router off & on again every hour or two.

It doesn't slow down, it stops traffic completely.

The adsl is up, pppoe is up ... and I can't ping a thing for about a minute.
