Hi All,

Using CP + SAB.
Often enough to annoy me, getting rar downloads which are password protected - of course there is a readme.txt included which points to a website which you have to go to and sign up for mobile content services in order to get the rar password.
Has anyone had any luck with:

Brute force-ing the rar password? (seems like a waste of time to me)
Some method of getting the password and not having to sign up for the mobile content services? (I've heard of using a VPN service to get a US IP and you get a survey instead??)

incredibly frustrating and there doesnt seem to be a way to determine if the rar will have a password before you download it!!

thanks

Be more selective with your searches. In CP tell it to prefer certain releases (Settings -> Searcher -> Categories), you can also tell it to ignore certain releases that you know give issues so it doesn't download them in the first place.

If you go this route you are a fool.
Those links to "sites" are a route for them to get malware on your PC

SAB has an auto extract for password files. was a thread here last week. if you searched before you made a thread you would have had all the answers.

I've got some pretty specific search criteria, whomever is releasing the rar's seem to mimic any release group so its impossible to weed them out it seems.

I was having issues.

I now only use my own trusted search providers and none supplied by CP.

Zero issues since.

There's always one....

I dont want an auto extract.
I want to know what to do for my specific situation.
I searched and viewed that thread already and didnt quite find what I was looking for.

If you have an Anti-Virus program like Kaspersky it will be able to detect and notify you as soon as the first Rar part is downloaded.

The only downside to this is Kaspersky. :(

I only download from NZBsa and every password protected file comes with an nfo that has the password which is generally always the same anyway.

For what? His post was of absolutely no help whatsoever...

Because it helped me even if it didn't help you. There have been a lot of password protected archives recently and 9/10 times the password was the same. The method I had been using was laborious and this simplifies things greatly.
