NZB's and "share ratio"

OK, so I started playing around with nzb's today and have read a couple of the related threads on myadsl, just to get a feel for the local community.

Now, one thing I noticed was that a lot of guys feel very strong about guys just leeching and not sharing. I fully respect that, but am a bit baffled by how one would go about actually sharing.

With torrents it's quite easy. You just make sure to keep sharing until you hit a certain share ratio, 5:1 for me, for instance.

But how would you do this on a nzb site? I mean, the file is already cached and you can't just go and load it back up again, as most site have very strict rules regarding multiple posts of the same file.

So, how does one get that magical "I'm not a leecher" tag?

Please note, I'm very new to the whole usenet thing, so forgive me if this seems like a stupid guestion.

You've got to upload nzb's to the specific site.
 
Frankly binary usenet files are free to all,anybody who feels the need to call someone a leecher on indexer sites can shove it. There are enough free usenet indexing sites. I'm fairly certain most NZBs uploaded to these sites are just renamed downloads from other sites
 
You have to find original content, there's normally a rush between posters to see who can upload it first.
It's not the same as torrent sites though, I've never heard of a site that kicks you for not uploading.

If you really still want to upload, you have to search for something that hasn't been posted yet.
Just remember to check to make sure the file doesn't contain a virus and the description matches the file your downloading, and there must not be a password needed to open the file after you've downloaded it.

indeed, you do bring up a good point though. i myself have felt quite guilty about my ratio. i found the best way to avod the rush between users or run the risk of posting something that will be nuked, would be for you to post/upload to usenet yourself
 
NZBs Rock, but I find it better to get an international account so I can max out my line instead of waiting it to cache locally :-D
 
Ja, sharing back on the Usenet is kinda pointless, as each download does not add any more strain to the network or use up any more resources. The stuff is just there, use it, don't use it, download it, don't download it. Nobody really cares what you do with it.

But if you have new material, and you know how, then by all means, yes, share it. please!

How can you possibly beat the main uploaders with new content?
 
If I downloaded something with an NZB I got somewhere else I useable upload it. still my ratio is like 5:120 :o
 
You don't have to upload a single thing. That's the wonder of news groups and the reason I don't like torrents. Besides, I share enough at lans :p

whats your isp? What line you got? Do they not shape the international?

because if you posted the RARs and PARs to usenet yourself you'll know about it and have a .nzb to upload long before them. even a 'repost' is new content as it's age is less
 
I believe that uploading is actually discouraged unless you are going to be a regular contributor with the latest stuff. Something about taking up extra space on the cache or something.

I do feel a pang of guilt every time I hit the download button but this is so much better than torrents!

unless you uploading obscure stuff, what are you adding to the stuff already uploaded? say in terms of tv episodes, does your repost add to what was previously uploaded? maybe i am missing something here. but it seems you are saying upload for the sake of uploading. and that is really not useful in a usenet context.

have i missed something?
