So Vodacom have now decided to do away with telling us how much data we got left and are starting to send out these alarmist notifications,
The data bundle on 082xxxxxxx is about to run out. This when only 50% of the bundle has been used, why don't they show the remaining bundle in the SMS?

because they themselves have no idea how much data you have. all "sources" of your balance is a wild guess and most of the time can be out by a mile. Its the only way their way of making millions out of the R2/mb oob rates out of customers who actually use their connections.

Utter rubbish.

oh really? So how do you explain then how a prepaid customers data usage can be accurate to the cent (or kb) at any time he checks, however Vodacom "claims" at various occasions that its impossible to show a real time balance for a contract customer, other than for the simple reason that if a prepaid customer use 'more than they should' Vodacom gets nothing out of it but a contract customer they get R2.00 / mb?

The prepaid and top up contract billing system is realtime whereas the postpaid contract billing system aggregates your usage every couple of hours.

so what i said earlier is not utter rubbish, its a pure business decision to have it that way, and the only reason any person on the street can see for it is so that if someone 'quickly' downloads a few gigs of data Vodacom can send him a nice bill of a couple of grand and say 'oh sorry its not our problem'.

Do you know of any cases where a Vodacom customer was billed for data that was not actually used?

I was referring to data balances, as in if i check now using the sms notifications which seems to just be randomly sent these days without even saying how much you actually had at the time the sms is sent, *111# or their website or any other form of way to check what they say I have available. I was not referring to what vodacom say a few hours/days later I have used. the problem is if I download 1gb now and then check my available data 10 minutes later it will not show I now have 1gb less available in my bundle if I have an open data contract (where Vodacom stand to make 1000's if i go over my bundle), whereas if i were on prepaid (where vodacom will make nothing if they let you go over your bundle) it would reflect immediately.

Like Vodacom, you simply read what you want to answer and then run on that, The problem is not how much you used vs how much they charge you for. At no stage did anyone question how much data they bill for.
