Vodacom is, from my own experience, far more unreliable than MTN in Cape Town, but would possibly lead in the coverage battle. Their GPRS is atrocious and MTN is the clear leader in that arena.
Many people complain about disconnections which I believe should not be attributed to hardware, but to the service.

I was on Vodacom before MTN, and don't recall ever having service problems - the reason I left them was because of a handset issue.

MTN continually drop calls, make mistake on bills, don't bother sending bills - and at Vodacom I was allowed to speak to different departments, as well as supervisors when I had problems. Oh, and Vodacom actually returned calls when promised.

1. I was never allowed to be transferred to a different team.
2. Vodacom made a point of not returning calls promptly. I did have a voicemail once from someone without a contact number or discernible name and no actual content to the message. i.e. pointless.
3. The callback service was turned off when I needed it.
4. A supervisor was never in the office or the building (allegedly). I was even transfered to a friend of the operator who pretended to be a supervisor until I asked the right questions.
5. I could never understand the operators because of their shocking English.
6. Sometimes I was on hold for short of an hour waiting.

I'm not saying other networks are better in all respects, just that MTN was better overall. My own survey if you like.

Well my survey is quite the opposite when comparing the two.

I am still waiting for a supervisor at MTN to call me, this from Friday already.

I called MTN twice yesterday, and twice today, not once have I been called back by two different staff who promised to do so, even going so far as to say that they are not liars - so much for their honesty, may they burn in hell.... and guess what, you can't even report them, as you can't get to speak to anyone higher up than them.

MTN suck goats balls - plain and simple.

Which is why people use HelloPeter.

Seriously though, that's getting more common and is the most irritating response. They are scared of getting flamed by their bosses.
