O365 free for students?

Does anyone know if you can get O365 legally for free if you are a student? I heard the states and Australia have it. Will it work here?

I use "school" in the American sense - K-12, college, university, etc. They're all "school" there.

Your university email should give you access to O365 for free.
Log in at mail.office365.com
There should be an option to install software.

NMMU students get Office 365 for free. Instructions are on the student portal. Your university should communicate whether or not they offer it in a similar manner, considering how important it is for students. I'd be surprised if any public university in SA didn't offer it.

I think WITS doesn't, they have some agreement with Google for their email.

From my knowledge it doesn't expire, using your university email account you should have access.

True but when I last checked, there was no sign of Office 365 or any other version. They also had a stupid message about not having an admin to approve account requests to actually get access to Office.

DreamSpark is normally managed by the faculty in charge of 'programming' so comp sci, software development, electronic eng etc.

O365 is managed by the department in charge of email.

We do even though our email is Gmail based.
