Tripoli - Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi lashed out at Barack Obama on Wednesday, accusing the US presidential candidate of not living up to his campaign slogan because of recent comments on Israel.

Though Gadhafi referred to Obama as "our brother, the Kenyan with American nationality", he also said he expected more from the Illinois Democrat.

"Obama has not fulfilled anything from his slogan: 'Change'," Gadhafi said.

The Libyan leader spoke at ceremony marking the 38th anniversary of foreign troops leaving the North African country after he came to power in a military coup in 1969.

In a snub to the United States, his speech was at an airport in Tripoli that was the site of a US airbase, which closed in June 1970. Instead of his normal attire - elaborate robes - Gadhafi wore a military uniform for the first time in years.

Disappointed our hopes

"Obama's announcement that the unified Jerusalem should be the eternal capital of Israel and that he will support it with $30bn during the next 10 years, has disappointed our hopes and that of the Africans," Gadhafi said.

During a speech earlier this month to Jewish activists in Washington, Obama said the bond between Israel and the United States was "unbreakable" and that as president "I will never compromise when it comes to Israel's security".

Obama said Jerusalem should remain the undivided capital of Israel - touching off heavy criticism among Palestinians, who claim the eastern part of Jerusalem as a capital for their future state.

"We expected his (Obama's) change to mean that he will stand beside the Palestinian people, the besieged and the victims of injustice," Gadhafi said.

Gadhafi suggested that Obama should promise to give Africa the money Washington allocates to Israel to "build a dam on the Congo River to supply the whole African continent with power."

Who cares about what he says???

Does he not know Obama flip flopped on that. He was just pandering to the Jewish lobbyists.

Anyway add another despot to the ever growing lemming fan base of demagog Obama

What a typical African "leader". Lambastes the West on all fronts, tells them how cr@p they are and stay out of Africa's problems, but does it with his hand held out demanding more Western money!!!

When are the Westernised nations going to realise that they have pandered long enough to the Africa's demands for reparations and that they should just leave them be to run their own countries and continent. If they are that adept and self sufficient, then they should not need to ask for handouts.

Build your own f@#king dam you ignoramous.

Why would Africans be disappointed? Oh yes, because he is not giving $30 billion to them to fritter away into their own coffers leaving nothing for the destitute on the continent.

@sshole!

I take it you do not live in Africa?

I take it you do not live in Africa?

I most certainly do, born and bred (and not into a wealthy, well to do family either).

I am just sick and tired of the African countries standing with their hands held out begging, ne, demanding money, and at the same time telling those selfsame countries to stay out of African affairs as Africa does not need their input or critisisms.

If Africa and their "leaders" are capable of running their countries without outside influence or assistance, then it should be applied across the board.
