Obama's Growing Gun Problem

Now that Republicans in Congress won important concessions from President Obama in the debt ceiling debate, the next partisan battle is likely to be over what promises to be the first major scandal of the Obama administration: the botched gun sting known as "Operation Fast and Furious." The administration should waste no time and come clean about what happened, who approved it, and how it can be avoided again.

When Sen. Grassley asked ATF if the guns that had been "used" in the killing of the border agent were part of the Fast and Furious operation, the bureau said no. The bureau failed to acknowledge, however, that two of the guns found at the scene were indeed part of the program on the shaky grounds that the evidence didn't conclusively show the Fast and Furious guns fired the fatal shots.

How did anyone think an operation like this was a good idea?

How did obama supply the guns? I thought they bought them in US, they have specials on cars that include free guns :D

No the problem is the government under Obama supplying criminals in another country with weapons
But isn't that an age old American government tradition. Why has it suddenly become a problem? Because this time the weapons were used to off a US agent?

Meh. Its a risky situation: allow guns to be purchased in hopes that you catch the big fish, or don't allow them and stop the little guys as they make a purchase. Crime lords will get their guns any way. You're damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Mike Bouchard, a former assistant director for field operations, said the endless criticism may have left some at ATF figuring, "No matter what we do we're going to get beat up. Take off the little guy, people say you're not going after big enough people. Take off big people, these are the risks. ... And I'm not sure people thought of the risks that come along with going after the big guys."

From the (exhaustively long) HuffPo article on the 'Fast and Furious Operation'.

If you are damned either way then don't be damned for doing the wrong thing :D.

Rather be damned for doing nothing.

Pathetic, they should all be thrown in jail, whoever was responsible for this. So they supplied guns used to kill federal US agents?
What a ****ing disaster.

The US didn't supply weapons to the cartels; The ATF allowed the purchase of weapons for an ongoing investigation. There is a difference.

Yep, well that's the problem. Everyone wants you to do something about crime but as soon as a good guy dies everyone is up in arms
