The African Alliance for Peace has declared the elections in KZN free, fair and transparent.

Their 20 strong observer mission from various African countries monitored the run-up as well as yesterday’s polls in the province.

Former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo who heads the Alliance addressed media at Durban’s ICC a short while ago.

He says the general high levels of political tolerance observed in the province are a testimony to a maturing democracy in South Africa.

“In our opinion nothing that we observed in the past week will substantially adversely affect the outcome or credibility of the election. “Where there were a few incidents of minor political intolerance observed by our teams these were neither systematic nor widespread but rather isolated and sporadic.”

Since when do elections get declared free and fair by province and not for the country as a whole?

And AFAIK, this declaration can only be made after every vote has been counted.

A bit premature.
