Does anybody know of any institutions that offer training on this subject. I have done classical software analysis and design and OO as part of my degree with UNISA, but am looking to further sharpen my skills in this area.

Most training places offer training to companies and I want one where I can go in my own capacity after hours or online.

Do you require the qualification or would this be for personal development. If the latter is the case there are several good books on the subject.

Wits university has got a hectic Object-Oriented Analysis and Design thingy in their IS department, thats if varsities are in the list of options you looking at..they dont dwell much on the code..but overall, I agree with slayerza..you could grab a book school yourself.

I am looking for a qualification, and yes universities are part of the options. Infact I d be happy to do it with a university of a reputable training company

The one thing I know is that most varsities don't offer OOAD as a "stand-alone" course. Its normally bundled with the relevant degree/qualification and spread out through the course of the degree.

In my case it was from Second year till 3rd.

Im in honours year now at CTI and busy doing OOAD (i write on the 7th of december) ***ing a bit :P. in my subject we cover:

1. Principles of object modellin
2. Intro to UML
3. Object Orientated Analysis - Object modelling 1 & 2, Dynamic Modelling, Behavioural modelling.
4. Unified software development process
5. Analysis to design
6. Designing the human computer interface
7. Design choices
8. Comparison of OO methods - UP, using UML and OMT
9. OO methods and structured methods

Not sure if u can do it as a seperate course. try have a look at their website www.cti.co.za

The Way i would recommend to charpen the skills would be to learn some patterns.... OO is simple and once you learn some pattern's and see how it is used in a practical example you should grasp the concepts.....

Gang of 4 should be a good starting point...
then you can look into some of the M$ patterns courses....

Just remember programming is easy look and object's also.... a good developent now's best practises and optimisation of code and write his first draft of the code using these prinicples...
