I'm so confused...

That's the point. Most mid to large OOP projects are just like this, a confusing mess that works until it doesn't.

Too easily said; not easily practiced. Every OOP project starts off with good intentions.

The solution as I indicated before is FP (functional programming); majority of the codebase should be FP; only a few parts really require OOP, for example: UI interaction.
