Hi Guys

This isn't my day job, but I've been trying to develop a small app for internal office use, as a kind of a personal goalpost of mine. I registered on Lynda.com and honestly their beginner level type tutes are not bad, though a bit dated.

Trying to find online help (free or otherwise) to flesh out what I've learned on Lynda is incredibly difficult, though I've had some limited success. (I got radio buttons to work in the preferred way last night - took me a while and I know it's a ridiculously small win, but damnit... it felt like I had summited Everest.)

So I thought I'd come on here and ask if you guys have any suggestions, online / offline / books etc. that can help a person along.

From beginner through to intermediate and above.

Thanks again for your time in answering.

Hi,

I mainly use Udemy and Udacity for my introduction learning. Udemy sale is ending today btw.
Stanford also has a free course on iOS development. You can access it via Youtube or iTunes U

Any reason you are going with Objective C instead of Swift?

Agree with @VG008 if you're just starting out with macOS development you should rather use Swift instead of Objective-C. For a good set of beginner friendly tutorials in either Objective-C or Swift have a look at Ray Wenderlich's web site:

Hi

No particular reason other than I started this journey a while ago and chose C++ and Objective-C, and I've invested quite a bit of time in this (though the time is broken up during a rather tumultuous time in my personal life, which I'd like to offer as an excuse of my stunted growth) - so I just continued, and wanted to at least finish the course. Also I'm a total masochist. :)

Thanks for the feedback though, will definitely look into Udemy and Udacity. And Swift.

I started developing in Obj-C, but finished my first app in Swift. I would highly recommend learning Swift. Also. Stanford course is worth it. It explains the frameworks as well.

Hey, thanks, would you be able to link to the Stanford course? I went searching, but I'm not sure if I am missing something. (Well, I obviously am... lol)

Aside from www.raywenderlich.com for with Objective-C or Swift; I would also recommend Apple education material if you decide to go with Swift, for example:
Plus for the latest published Swift reference books, you should look at https://swift.org/documentation/

Hi Guys

Thanks, I did the first bit where he does the calculator, though I started late at night on Friday so I did not complete. I find it interesting though it felt a bit strange at first.

So I will definitely be looking at all the links, thanks a mil guys! (But if you have any other sources to share for Obj-C / Swift etc please keep it coming!) : )

I'm going to add another tip. Learn the tutorials, but think of an app you want to develop. Just an app that will push you to read up on the frameworks.

Also. Stackoverflow is your friend.
